The Shunting with TMS (RmTMS) project adopts a staged approach to gradually implement digitalisation of the shunting process while minimising risk. Implementation takes place in the Digital Train Paths Solution (DSO TRS) according to defined implementation steps:
- 'Live test' implementation step.
In this phase, initial functional tests are conducted to check the technical feasibility and acceptance of the new systems. This occurs within a limited framework whereby certain selected stations are used as test environments. The aim is to obtain insights for the further development and adaptation of the processes.
- 'Pilot operation' implementation step.
Pilot operation is conducted in selected stations to test and optimise the new processes under real conditions. This phase is used to finalise the technical functionality and the organisational workflows and to prepare for commercial operation.
- Further implementation steps.
These are planned and adapted on the basis of the insights and the roadmap.
The staged implementation provides enough time to gain the acceptance of all participants and to be able to flexibly adapt the processes. It facilitates a gradual introduction of the new technologies and processes to minimise the risks during development and implementation.
