DB Netz AG is dispatching with SBB's Rail Control System (RCS).
The German infrastructure operator DB Netz AG is replacing its previous dispatching systems with SBB's Rail Control System (RCS).
The two systems currently used for DB Netz AG’s operations will reach the end of their life cycles in December 2019. To keep pace with digitalisation and take advantage of future opportunities, German infrastructure manager DB Netz AG will in future rely on SBB's Rail Control System.
The company is currently working with SBB to continue developing RCS as a dispatch control system (LeiDis-D). The most innovative feature for Germany is the implementation of an automated conflict identification and resolution system. This important function paves the way for modern and efficient capacity management.
The replacement of the dispatch system is currently the biggest IT project at DB Netz AG and brings with it numerous challenges, such as how to properly process enormous amounts of data and train thousands of employees.
Successful pilot operations have already been running in Munich and Duisburg since 2016. Following extensive parallel operations with the existing system, the nationwide roll-out of the first release is set to take place in early 2020.
